June 2009: Scandals, Healing & the Power of the Feminine

Venus moves into Taurus on 5th June, the sign of her dignity. She joins Mars in this earthy sign and the two planets conjoin (‘make love’) on 21st June. In Taurus, Venus has the upper hand in the partnership, and the feminine energies come to the fore*. Life starts to calm down a little, feels softer. These feminine energies are echoed by the Sun’s move into Cancer, also on 21st June and Cancer’s New Moon on the 22nd, but more on that later…

On 7th June, we experience a Full Moon in Sagittarius. Plans start to come to fruition now, especially those to do with travel, learning or communicating, plans which didn’t quite come together whilst Mercury was retrograde. By 14th June, when Mercury is comfortably back in his home sign of Gemini, any remaining blockages on this front should fall away and it’s full speed ahead with any mercurial-type projects that have been on ice for the last three weeks or so and this includes travel plans, outstanding contractual arrangements and all communication-based ventures.

During its full Moon phase, the Moon is at its brightest. Under the light of the full Moon we can’t hide, we see that which we might not want to see, and expose that which we might not want others to see. Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter, which is currently in Aquarius and involved in a rare conjunction with Neptune and Chiron. In Aquarius, Jupiter seeks the truth from the point of view of the collective consciousness and needs to comprehend that which helps the many, not the few. Expect to see these themes played out in the media during the time of the Sagittarius Full Moon, along with idealistic and optimistic talk of how we must heal the collective wounds in our society, with calls for social and political unity and reform.

Around June 9-10, when Mercury squares the Jupiter-Neptune-Chiron conjunction feel inspired by grand ideas and visions and on June 18, when Sun trines Jup-Nep-Chir expect to feel pleasantly energized and inspired.

Throughout June, this ongoing Jupiter-Neptune-Chiron conjunction continues to make waves. First we had the swine flu scare and then we had, in the UK, the MPs expenses scandal.  Neptune is a potent symbol for scandal and its triple conjunction with Jupiter and Chiron in Aquarius opposes Great Britain’s Saturn in Leo (1801 chart).

The Leo-Aquarius axis symbolizes the need to balance the individual need for personal gain and acclaim  with a collective responsibility to abide by rules set to benefit all of society. Clearly, the selfish greed of some of our politicians has tipped the balance too far into the selfish side of Leo, so these powerful Aquarius energies have come along to expose the affairs of parliament and clear the way for reform. Ultimately, Aquarius reminds us that politicians are elected public servants and as such, need to be publically accountable in order to have any kind of integrity.

On 15th June, Jupiter joins Neptune and Chiron in Retrograde motion until October. This will be an opportunity for British politics, as a collective, to review what has gone on so far, to plan for reform, to start to mend the wounds within each political party and to start to rebuild their relationship with the British public. However, this conjunction runs until the end of the year, suggesting a lot of work needs to be done to restore faith in those who have been chosen to lead and with Neptune we can never be sure what is really going on behind the scenes…

On a very personal level, this phase of the Jupiter-Neptune-Chiron conjunction is a good time to rest, to relax, to seek out some physical, emotional and mental healing, to retreat into your dreams. A large number of friends, colleagues and clients recently have complained of feeling dog-tired and whilst not out and out ill, they are generally under the weather, some suffering from mild, undefined viruses and allergies, whilst others are coming to terms with the more serious illnesses or bad fortunes of those they are close to. Without a doubt, this past six months or so have been tough on everyone. Many of us have been directly affected by the economic recession and even among those who aren’t, most have been infected by the general atmosphere of worry and anxiety. It’s all taken its toll and now we must all take a bit of time to recover. Some of us will seek out-and-out fantasy and escapism, some will retreat into their dreams, while others will look towards alternative healing methodologies to help them. Indulge these urges if you feel them, for it is in these realms where you may find relief and healing. The three days before the New Moon, 19-21st June offer a particularly good opportunity for this kind of work, but please, remember to stay grounded and centred with at least one foot in your reality, ready to spring back to the world when called because, warriors, we have a long way to go on this journey and we will need all our wits about us in the times to come.

On the 21st June, the Sun moves into Cancer, followed on the 22nd by the Cancer New Moon. The Sun’s move into Cancer marks one of the two Solstices, the Summer Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere, the longest day of the year.  Cancer symbolizes the nurturer or that which needs nourishment and sustenance. It is pure feminine energy, invoking the mother, the goddess in the fullness of her bloom. In the lead up to the New Moon, we are thrust into a metaphorical darkness. Unlike the Full Moon in Sagittarius where the truth is exposed and hits us in the face, during the Cancer New Moon, we must seek out the dark and go within to find our own truth, listen to our inner voice, and ask our intuition what we need. Hold yourself kindly and gently, picture your sensitivities as strengths and protect and nurture yourself in order to heal and prepare for whatever lies ahead. During this New Moon, the Sun and Moon oppose Pluto, emphasizing the need to find a powerful, fresh perspective and respect for the feminine values of caring, feeling, nurturance and for the grace of following your intuition.

Wishing you a peaceful June.
